What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure that’s the gold standard to reverse the signs of aging in a non-surgical way. It can be used to tighten the skin but there are other non-invasive lasers and radio-frequency devices that can be used to make the skin tighter.
What Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Improve?
Laser skin resurfacing can be used to improve the signs of aging in the top and bottom layers of the skin. It can remove brown spots, precancerous spots, fine and deep lines, acne scars, other scars, and acne. It is a procedure that is used skin tightening. It can also be used to remove benign moles and other growths. With a new drug delivery and laser skin resurfacing combinations, many chronic skin conditions and diseases can also be treated.
Am I a Candidate for Laser Resurfacing?
Anyone with signs of aging, loose skin, scars, acne scars is a good candidate for treatment.
How does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Laser skin resurfacing removes the top layers of the skin, the epidermis, and part of the second layer, the dermis, which has collagen in it. Removing the top layer helps with brown spots and blemishes. Removing the second layer stimulates collagen regeneration. With aging and sun exposure, collagen becomes soft and weak, which causes wrinkles and loose skin. New collagen holds skin tighter and improves wrinkles and makes the skin tighter. There are two lasers that can be used for laser skin resurfacing, these include CO2 and Erbium: YAG lasers. Dr. Khatri uses both of these lasers. He also conducted the first study that compared these two lasers when he was at Harvard.
The Three Types of Laser Skin Resurfacing
Full Ablative Skin Resurfacing
Full ablative LSR is most effective but requires local anesthesia and one week of downtime.
Fractional Ablative LSR
Fractional Ablative LSR is the second best that could be performed under topical anesthesia in most cases with a few days of downtime.
Fractional Non-Ablative LSR
Fractional non-ablative LSR is done about 3 times with one month between each treatment. This can easily be done under topical anesthesia with minimum downtime.
How Many Laser Resurfacing Treatments Will I Need?
Typically only a single treatment is needed but however, if needed, it can be repeated.

Most of our patients get very good to excellent results.

We recommend that patients stay home for 3-5 days after treatment. Makeup can be used after 5-7 days and we recommend skincare products to patients to use after LSR to maintain the results.
What Are The Side Effects of Laser Resurfacing?
With all lasers, possible complications include light or dark pigmentation, blistering, infection, and scaring. These complications are rare and Dr. Khatri has been using lasers for over 20 years and we don’t have a single patient with any major complications.

During the treatment, everyone in the room, including patient and staff has a risk of eye damage and we always protect our eyes with protective goggles or eye shields.
