Leave the Mask Inside: The Joy of Mole Removal

Mole/Growth Removal | BostonBetween kissing someone with garlic breath and someone who has a mouth full of crooked yellow teeth, nothing will make you cringe quite as much as looking at a hairy mole in the mirror. If you have a benign mole that is giving you grief— and making you feel a bit unsexy— consider having it removed by the experts at Skin & Laser Surgery Center. By using a combination of laser mole removal and Cryotherapy, you can get rid of your mole with minimal scarring. Read on to learn more about mole removal and whether it’s the right treatment for you.

During your appointment at Skin & Laser Surgery Center, your mole(s) will be evaluated for size, shape, and color. Whether or not the dermatologist is suspicious that your mole is cancerous or not, the mole will need to be removed and sent off to pathology for testing. There are two ways in which our dermatologists at Skin & Laser Surgery Center like to remove moles: laser mole removal and Cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy

Depending on the size and location of the mole, Cryotherapy may be used. Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze off the mole so that it hardens and falls off. By first numbing your mole and the skin around it with a local anesthetic, you shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure. However, because cryotherapy doesn’t always get rid of the entire mole, you may need to have it done in conjunction with laser removal.

Laser Mole Removal

As another popular treatment option, laser mole removal involves using an anesthetic to numb the mole and skin around the mole. Once numbed, a laser will be used to help get rid of the pigment in the mole. Typically, the mole will turn black a few days after you receive laser treatment and then it will be absorbed by the body.
