What Is PRP?

You may have heard about PRP being used in facials like the vampire facial, but this platelet-rich plasma can also be used to help treat hair loss. The plasma in your blood is rich in all sorts of unique proteins which help to stimulate stem cell growth which can help with a wide array of things such as collagen growth and, yes you guessed it, even hair growth.

How Is PRP Performed?

To start out, we will cleanse the scalp and apply a topical anesthetic gel. Additionally, we may use nitrous oxide gas or laughing gas for some additional comfort. Afterward, we will draw your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the rest of your blood. Next, your platelets are concentrated to about three times the normal blood value to help stimulate hair growth in the treatment area. Then, we Dr. Khatri will inject your scalp with the plasma.

Is It Painful?

As previously mentioned, we will use a combination of a topical anesthetic gel and nitrous oxide to ensure that you remain as comfortable as possible.

Who Is A Good Candidate?

Ideal candidates for PRP for hair loss are at the beginning stages of thinning hair with at least partially active hair follicles. Patients with more advanced hair loss or inactive follicles are still considered to be good candidates for PRP, but we remind them that they may require more treatments. Additionally, we also use PRP to treat patients suffering from alopecia areata.
