3 Ways to Get Rid of Sun Spots
When you age you can look at the entire process in one of two ways: it’s a beautiful thing that shows your age and where you’ve been, or it’s something that needs to be stopped immediately. If your philosophy regarding your aging skin is that of the ladder, you are not alone. And as one of the biggest indicators that your skin is in fact aging, sun spots can not only make you look a bit older but they can also make your skin lose it’s even tone as well. Luckily, here at Skin and Laser Surgery Center, we offer our clients multiple ways to get rid of sun spots. Read on to learn more.
1. Retinol Cream
As an easy and non-invasive way to help to get rid of the pigment associated with sunspots, retinol cream can help you. As a topical cream that you apply to your face either at morning or night, retinol cream works to target the top few layers of your dermis in order to encourage the growth of new skin—which will in turn help you to get rid of your sun spots. However, retinol cream can take a while to work and can also cause your skin to be more sensitive to things like sun exposure.
2. Chemical Peels
Here at Skin and Laser Surgery Center we also offer our patients chemical peels as a method to help get rid of sunspots. By introducing your skin to a chemical peel like a glycolic peel, you can help perform a similar effect to retinol cream but it is a speedier process. As an in-office procedure, the chemical will be applied to your skin and left on there for around 5-7 minutes. After which, the chemical will be removed. For the next few days following your peel, your skin may be a bit tender to the touch and will start to slough off. By sloughing off the top few layers of your dermis, your body will naturally produce new skin that will help to get rid of those sunspots.
3. Laser
Another fast and effective way to get rid of your sunspots is through one of our laser treatments. By targeting the pigment in your skin, lasers work to heat up the sunspot and they will typically fall off in a week or two. During your laser treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to your skin so that you don’t feel any pain or discomfort during treatment.
