3 Unique Tips for Protecting Your Skin From Skin Cancer
Here at our office, we pride ourselves on delivering patients with not just cosmetic treatments but with general dermatology treatments as well. With summer just a month away, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about the importance of taking good care of your sin and how to detect early signs of skin cancer. With just a few simple tips, you can shield your skin from the big C (cancer).
Know Your Skin
One of the best things that you can do for your skin is to know your skin. Do regular skin cancer checks and become familiar with your freckles and moles. If you have a mole that has changed, keep a close eye on it and if you think that it may be cancerous, don’t hesitate to give our office a call. One tip that we tell our patients is to try to do a skin check in the shower about once a month.
Get Regular Skin Checks
If you have never had your skin professionally looked at by a dermatologist, then make this year that year that you do that. Depending on your insurance, they will usually cover a skin cancer check-up because it’s seen as preventative. During your skin cancer check, we will usually have you undress and get into a hospital gown. Then, we will look at all of the skin on your body and make note of any moles, any abnormalities, or anything to keep a close eye on.
Wear Sunscreen Everyday
It’s no secret that you should wear a sunscreen almost every day of the summer, but you may be surprised to hear that you should wear a sunscreen every day in general; rain or shine, snow or shine, clouds or shine— in other words, just wear a sunscreen.
